A quick overview of my army fluff:My Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) force is an loyalist insurgent group. The planet's governor, and a majority of the military, turned renegade. So my gents, being proper loyalists along with some members of the PDF, turned on the new dictator. Their quest is to re-establish the governorship and planetary control to the Imperium. Army wise, I have gone for a list focused around mobility and city fighting. My heavy weapon teams have missile launchers (portable heavy weapons, and versatile). I have a unit of Bullgryns, their great slabshields would be invaluable in the narrow confines of the streets. My super-heavy is a Hellhammer named, "Heedless" (yes, after my first Jax Jensen short), the ignore-cover weapons on it are too good to pass up: one hellhammer cannon with 2 twin-linked heavy flamers to guard the sides from assault). The Heedless"The Heedless" is the pride of my Astra Militarum force fluff wise, and modeling wise the center-piece of my army. I managed to get my hands on one of the old out-of-print blisters of the Imperial Guard Tank Commanders. My goal is to give this model a lot of character. The hatches are open with three tankers popping out. They've thrown sandbags up around the three main hatches, topped with razor-wire. The paint is chipped and corroded, being an insurgent force they haven't had many opportunities to maintain it much. Tabletop wise I have had plenty of success with this model. The pervasiveness of cover in 7th ed. makes the ignores cover weaponry super handy -and I'm happy to say, part of my army's fluff. I fought a White Scars biker list, and the blasts took out swathes of troops completely surpassing their 2+ jinks. So handy. Here are some pictures of the progress! Amazing job and very inspirational. I'm working on an army of IG that are trapped in a planet in the ghoul stars region with no back up fighting off countless threats. Your hellhammer has given me a lot of ideas to add to my army.

Woo! I'm so glad that it has given you some ideas! One tip I can give if you plan on making sandbags -I may do a post about making them- but if you plan on using greenstuff to make them and put them on the model, I suggest putting a bit of masking tape on the model. That way you can lift the sandbags off the vehicle easily once they harden a bit. (Just in case you would want to paint any areas that may be covered by the sandbags without losing the desired shape)

Very nice! It puts my own baneblade to shame. I think the "iron king" is in need of a new paint job...

Definitely make sure the "Iron King" has a paint job befitting the title! I'd love to see pictures! Would any of you want me to do a post showing how to do sandbags? I have this old Games Workshop book that talks about making it from "green stuff".

Yeah that would be good. The name of it comes from that all of my tanks are named after lordly titles like duke and earl. I needed a king to run my little metal court. :) 2/24/2016 11:04:26 pm
Just rewording the steps from the "how to" book. (It is called "How to make wargames terrain" by Games Workshop -they don't make it anymore so I suggest amazon for a cheap copy!):
