NaNoWriMo 2017 Prep

10/3/2017

So it is getting closer to that time of year again ... NaNoWriMo--the National Novel Writing Month--where writers of all stripes are challenged to write a hefty 50,000 words during the month of November! I have partaken in this challenge for the last three (maybe four?) years, and even on the years where I haven't hit the 50k word goal, I'm still happy for having attempted it--and a better writer for it.

I think this year, even though I'm in training, I will still be trying my best to hit the goal! I encourage you to try to as well.

You can sign up here. The site comes with a word counter to help track progress, and keep you updated on how many words you need to hit per day to make your goal. You can also find local writing groups to meet up at cafes and socialize. If you make it to the end of November and achieve your goal, you are rewarded with special prizes such as 50% off discounts for Scrivner, and other offers from places like CreateSpace.

Let me know in the comments below if you're going to try it out this year! If you need something to think about/stew on, then look below! I'll be sure to share my writing project plans here.

Keep writing!

-Matt

    POSTING SCHEDULE

I will do my best to be posting new content every Wednesday. Tentatively dubbed "Workshop Wednesday" I will relatively unedited practice pieces I create to work on certain aspects of the writing craft. Bear in mind military service and training schedules are unpredictable and may be cause for the occasional late post.

In the future I plan to have a set schedule for posting about other writing-related things, or topics in my interest field such as Table Top War Gaming and Video Games.

Thank you for your support and feedback!

Matthew Taylor was born February 13, 1991 in Simi Valley, California.  He earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from California State University Channel Islands, where he served as treasurer and briefly President of one of the campus's two political clubs. While earning his degree he continued to write and hone his craft, eventually releasing an initial few short stories on Kindle.

In 2017 he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Cyber Operations Specialist, but has continued to make time for writing even throughout busy training cycles and the rigors of military service.

In his spare time he enjoys painting models ranging from Malifaux to Warhammer 40k, reading (his favorite book is Hyperion by Dan Simmons), and playing video games.
