Hear me out for a second:Alright, so I'm going to get kind of deep here for a second... bear with me. I write in order to share my passion, have fun, and take readers on an adventure. I'm also a firm believer in using your talents, hobbies, and gifts, to help out others around you. This is why, I have used my eBook sales in the past to help try and raise money for organizations that I think are AWESOME. (United Through Reading, Wounded Warrior Project, Salvation Army, etc.) At the end of last year, I made a call for people to do one of two things: 1) Buy one of the few eBooks I have out right now, and a portion of the proceeds would go to United Through Reading (find out about them above...) or 2) Donate straight to United Through Reading. (I provided the link in the event that people would just rather give their money straight to the organization. An awesome cause.) Well, I am happy to say, it worked. Sort of. A few people took the offer to purchase eBooks. It was a very small amount of eBooks, and the meager sum of approximately $1.50 was donated (I took approximately 50% of each book sale and put it towards the donation) to United Through Reading. Don't laugh... While that amount may seem small, and may have you wonder: "Why bother?", I will proudly say: "It's a start." Everything starts from a seed... no idea ever starts out raising millions of dollars instantly... everything has to start with a first step. Those people who took the step and purchased an eBook supported two things: Someone's dream of writing, and someone's dream of being connected with their family. While I wish it could have resulted in thousands of dollars of donations, I am glad it resulted in anything at all. My goal is to use my writing to help provide more money for donation than I could ever raise out of my own earnings. We writers must come together in our community to improve the world of those around us, and I am all for putting my money where my mouth is and taking directly from the earnings that trickle in through my sales. I hope that in a future fundraising effort I can get partners to join me, multiple readers, multiple writers, multiple entrepreneurs... if you have a talent or a hobby and use it as a means of making money -no matter how much or how little it may be- join me in taking some of what you receive and putting it to use to help a great charity/organization of your choice. $1.50 may not have been a lot. But it was something, and I am damn proud of it. All of us together could be legen... wait for it... dary! -Matt Join me in this effort:If anything I mentioned above resonates with you, join me! Whether you're an author, an illustrator, a decal maker... whatever. We can all come together. I am going to make a page on the website, probably under the "Matthew Taylor" tab, that highlights those entrepreneurs and creative types who have promised to join me in improving the world around them. So my promise to you is, if you will join in fundraising efforts and donate (any amount you feel driven to give) to a charity of your choice, or one of the ones I mentioned earlier, I will add your website to the list, so anyone who comes across my page has a chance to see your efforts as well. My only request is that you return the favor, and together we form a network for mutual benefit! If you're interested, just comment below! (site URL, what you do), and help spread the word! TAKEN FROM THE HOMEPAGE OF MY SITE:I write to help bring you along on an adventure! My goal is to provide the reader with an outstanding reading experience, and use the gift of writing to help improve the lives of others! I promise to regularly donate portions of my eBook proceeds to outstanding organizations like: United Through Reading, The Wounded Warrior Project, Salvation Army. Etc. We can come together as a community, readers and writers alike, to improve the world around us, one book and some change at a time. Thank you for your support. Now, come along on an adventure! -Matt Thank You:Thank you for taking the time to read this, I know it is a heavy change from most of my other posts... but, I feel keeping my goals quiet will not help in any way. I know that together we can help make some kind of change.
Thank you, Matthew Get in touch on twitter: @MattTay1776 Or on Facebook.
