Just getting some writing in this afternoon before cutting out for Christmas! Planning to spend time with friends and family, as is usual. What're some of your favorite traditions? One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is gather with friends and play some board games. A really fun game we have been playing recently is called "Betrayal at the House on the Hill" (Check it out here). It is a super fun game. Players choose who they want to be, different characters have different stats to start with, and everyone begins the game on the same "team". It is nice to have a group game where you aren't initially competing with one another. But this dandy little alliance doesn't last (usually)! As players take their turns you move throughout a haunted house, flipping room tiles and placing them in connecting doorways and such. Different rooms have different effects, some of them cause you to draw an omen (like slime dripping from walls, or my groups favorite -ghost children killing one another... brutal I know...). Other rooms give you items. Whenever a player draws an omen they roll dice, and if the dice add up to a number less than the number of omens in play -THE HAUNT STARTS!!! Players open up a really handy guidebook, one of the players becomes a traitor. Depending on the omen and the room it was drawn in, the players engage in a specific scenario, whether the house is collapsing into hell, or someone became a vampire and is now trying to turn the others into vampires before dawn... this aspect of the game gives it a hell of a lot of replay value and has a lot of fun scenarios! I give Betrayal a solid 8/10; well worth the playing. Have you played Betrayal before? What do you think of it? Comment below or tweet @MattTaylor1776 with some of your favorite game night games and holiday traditions! Merry Christmas y'all.
